Happy Holidays from the team here at the Clark County Medical Society! Tis the season to celebrate and be joyful for the blessings in our lives and our organization. There is much to celebrate here at CCMS, including advancements in technology, our strong leadership and Board of Trustees, our partners, and of course you, our members.

Without you, there would be no Clark County Medical Society. As you celebrate this holiday season, we hope you will take time for yourself and your loved ones. Physician burnout is not just an industry ‘buzzword’, but is an unfortunate fact and byproduct of our current health care industry. Physician’s wellness is an important topic that CCMS is committed continuing to address as we work to make Southern Nevada the best place to practice medicine. During this time of year, it is easy to get caught in the hustle bustle of parties, shopping, and the pressure of finding the right gift on top of already demanding careers, so please invest in yourself and take time to do something that is meaningful to you. CCMS is here to help support you, your practice, and your patients.

Need ideas to help show gratitude to your teams? Here are several ideas to celebrate hard work and relieve the stress over the holidays:

  • Have lunch catered from a special restaurant or host a themed potluck

  • Take your team out to dinner

  • Close your office early and give your team a two-hour head starts on celebrating or shopping

  • Pick a day and give back to our community by volunteering as a team for a local charity

  • Implement a gag gift exchange to add some laughs around the office or a white elephant gift exchange

  • Coordinate a Secret Santa’s or Secret Snowflakes gift program

  • Write a personal holiday greeting to each team member and wish them a happy holiday in face to face. A genuine showing of gratitude goes a long way.

And, now that we just added to your never-ending to-do list and should-do list, here are six ways to help you avoid some of the stress from holidays past, and create more space for truly savoring the reason for the season:

  1. Schedule Regular ‘Breath-Stops’ ... find a few minutes each day to breathe

  2. Don’t “Should” On Yourself. ... you can only do what you can do

  3. Create New Traditions. ... find the joy and make it happen

  4. Think Outside the (Gift) Box. ... how about making charitable gifts in honor of those who have everything

  5. Express More Gratitude. ... write a personal letter to family members, valued team members. These notes will become treasured.

  6. Turn off your phone when not on call and enjoy the moment.

  7. Lighten Up & Have Some Fun!

From all of us here at The Clark County Medical Society, we wish you joy, peace and season greetings.
